Teams

WHAT'S THE BIG IDEA?

OUR VISION is a world where girls share fully in the best humanity has to offer: education, human rights and the opportunity to live healthy, productive and meaningful lives.

OUR STRATEGY is unique. When members join our group, they contribute a minimum of $5 to our Grant Account. As the Account balance grows, members of the community create Teams for organizations they believe deserve a 5 for Fairness grant. When the Account reaches $5000, the community votes where to send the grant, choosing from among the five Teams with the most supporters. Then the whole process starts over again.

We hope you'll learn more about us and then JOIN US!

Friday Fairness: PROJECT GIRL

In so many different situations, problems in our world could be fixed if everyone could express themselves and communicate with others while understanding the said and unsaid intonations. The organization "PROJECT GIRL" attempts to make these underlying meanings in the media's messages easier for girls around the world to understand through an art-based curriculum.

PROJECT GIRL began with the goal of helping clarify the jumble of words and advertisements that are attached to

Friday Fairness: The National Girls Collaborative Project

This summer, I attended a course at UCLA that focused on the interdisciplinary world between art and science (The SciArt NanoLab Program). I am proud to say that for the first time, more females were in attendance of this class than males. All around the globe, different organizations are echoing this sentiment and supporting girls diving into the world of science. The National Girls Collaborative Project (NGCP) is one of these groups.

The goal of the NGCP is to aid pro

Friday Fairness: Girls & Gangs

Almost everyone here knows about the gangs problems in Los Angeles. We hear the stories and shake our heads sadly, extremely upset that such tragedies can and do happen so close to home. So what can we do to help? The Association "Girls & Gangs" has something to say.

Girls & Gangs has one main aspiration: "to provide support and advocacy for girls and young women involved with the juvenile justice system by providing them with opportunities to envision and build succ

FOR ORGANIZATIONS

Welcome to 5 for Fairness!  We are here to support organizations doing great work on behalf of girls around the world.  If your organization is in the business of empowering girls, and you could use an unrestricted $5000.00 grant, we hope you'll consider asking a passionate supporter of yours to start a Team here.

All the Teams are in the running for a $5000 grant.  Winning is, of course, great.  But even if you don't win a grant right away, having a Team on 5 for Fairness can have ot… Continue

Anna McDonnell, Founder

I thought I would use this space to tell you a little bit about me, how I came up with the idea for 5 for Fairness and how I hope this is the last place on 5 for Fairness I will liberally use the word "I".

I am proud and blissfully happy to be the mother to three sons.  And much as I adore each of them and wouldn't trade them in for anything, I always longed for a girl.  I hoped for a girl because I wanted the challenge of bringi… Continue

What is it about this organization that fires you up enough to want to start a… Continue

How We Work

Our community supports fairness in many ways.  First, we each donate a minimum of $5 to our Grant Account.  As we wait for the account to reach $5000, we...

Shine a light:  Through blogs, videos and photographs, we draw attention to places and situations where girls are clearly not getting a fair share as well as to progress that is being made in the long march toward fairness.

Our Mission

5 for Fairness is a non-profit community dedicated to making the world fair for girls.  We believe that girls deserve to share fully in the best humanity has to offer: education, human rights and the opportunity to live healthy, productive and meaningful lives.  We are committed to fairness because, quite simply, it is the right thing to do.  But we also believe that when the world tilts toward fairness, we will find our most intransigent problems transformed by its light.

You bring your A game to the cause.
You treat every other member with respect.
You behave in a way that is worthy of the cause.
