if you want to catch a lot of rain, put out a lot of teacups...
Hi, I'm Nina M., a 5 for Fairness intern. I go to high school in Santa Monica, California. I'm interested in 5 for Fairness because I believe in gender equality. I went to an elementary school that basically
taught me not to discriminate. I strongly believe that all people should not be treated differently because of their gender, race or sexual orientation. I've done a great deal of work with the St. Joseph's Center, which is a non-profit organization that allows parents who can't afford daycare a place to drop their kids while they are at work. The summer before my 10th grade year, I volunteered with their art camp and I also worked on the No on Prop 4 campaign with Planned Parenthood in the fall of 2008. At the time that I heard about 5 for Fairness, I was volunteering at the St. Joseph's Center daycare, but I wanted to do more because I didn't feel like I was making a real difference. So I decided to get involved in 5 for Fairness. 5 for Fairness, because it is online, is much more accessible because it lets me do work when I can as opposed to going somewhere to volunteer for two hours twice a week. My most recent service work has been with my local library, the Palisades Library, volunteering a couple hours a week and doing odd jobs. I'm excited to be working with 5 for Fairness!
