if you want to catch a lot of rain, put out a lot of teacups...
We're starting something new here on 5 for Fairness. Every week, we are going to put out a call to action to our group. Yes, that means YOU! We'll ask you do do one thing in the week that will move our mission forward. And we are going to try our hardest to pick actions you can take in under (what else?) 5 minutes.
This week's challenge is for each of us to write a (hopefully 5 star rave!) review of 5 for Fairness on GuideStar/Great Nonprofits. Why bother?
Two reasons:
1. GuideStar is running a contest this month. The nonprofit that brings in the most new reviews will win a $5000 grant which would mean we would have our next $5000 grant pronto!
2. If it were just about the contest, we wouldn't ask you to write a review. The chances of winning are always slim. But it actually is important for us to have a positive presence on GuideStar. They maintain a database filled with information about nonprofits (including us) that people can use to evaluate whether or not they thing a nonprofit is worth supporting. Positive reviews on GuideStar are likely to bring more people into our group.
So please, take 5 minutes, award us 5 stars and sing our praises right here.
And when you have written your review, please let us know here in the comments, or via the status bar on your page so we can sing YOUR praises!
Thanks, 5fers!

Permalink Reply by Anna McDonnell on February 9, 2011 at 9:08am Thanks to Emma for giving us a rave review on Great Nonprfoits/Guidestar!
She wrote: "I started working with 5 for Fairness last year and recently taken on a larger role. I think the power of this organization is not in the numbers (well not yet at least), but rather in the fact that it uses social networking to create equality for women internationally. Someone can spend as little as 5 minutes on the site and learn something new about an organization while connecting with other activists across the globe. The world is changing and the internet has become an important tool for promoting causes and raising money. I hope that more people will join the site soon and help us create equality for all!"

"I am a member of 5 For Fairness and have enjoyed every moment of my experience on the site. It's not just that the site is well managed and populated by engaged intelligent people, or even that it raises money for incredibly worthy causes. What separates this site from others is that it its members and administrators seem to have a very personal, emotional investment to the causes that are brought to the site. Women of the world couldn't be in better hands."
Each review gets us closer to another $5000 to give away and builds our internet street-cred. Thanks, Sam!

"I'm an intern at 5 for fairness and have found it to be such a wonderful experience. Each grant has gone to help people who are truly in need."
Permalink Reply by Anna McDonnell on February 9, 2011 at 9:12am Juliet - another of our awesome interns - showed up for us like this:
"It is amazing that through 5 for Fairness every member can be involved in helping girls and women across the globe. This site and organization really acts as a cohesive board. As members discuss the various groups, a certain synergy is formed as different experiences and ways of thought fuse to make this site as great as it is. Through this synergy, we have our amazing Teams and incredible discussions all in the process of helping those in need around the world."
Thanks, Juliet!

"I've never been an active member of a charitable organization before, though I have worked in many capacities, including fundraising, at my childrens' schools. At 5 for Fairness I've felt empowered to do so much. The concept that underlies the organization -- each member gives $5 and then we decide as a group where to give each $5000 that accumulates -- is both educational for me and inspiring. I have learned so much about the many worthy organizations that help women all over the world. I have felt as if my donation is part of a bigger thing. It has been an extraordinary experience and I'm so glad I joined."

"I have been a board member since the creaton of this on-line grant-making non-profit. It was the idea of a friend of mine, who wanted to be active in reaching out to help those with projects for improving girls' circumstances in one's own neighborhood or on the other side of the world. The world is made small by the internet and 5 For Fairness is bridging the geographical gap. Also, the value of this effort is not just to attract and distribute fund to worthy projects, but to educate 5 For Fairness participants about worthy efforts on behalf of girls that, hopefully, will have the ripple effect of linking those with resources to those with needs in areas of interest for the participants."
Thank you, Kristie!

5forfairness is filled with passion. The orginization is reletively small but has an incredible community of people who are profoundly interested in fostering fairness for girls both locally and internationally. 5forfairness allows for the fullest spectrum of recipients in the fairest way possible. it may not have any sort of groundbreaking new aspect of fairness for girls which it seeks to resolve, but rather it helps support all aspects of fairness for girls in a way that really makes a difference. 5forfairness is a groundbreaking idea in and of itself that helps heal an ongoing crises through the opinions of passionate members of the 5forfairness community. nobody is excluded from 5forfairness, it gets people who care involved who otherwise would not have the opportunity. it opens up worlds for its own community while helping open up new worlds for girls everywhere. This orginization is a beautiful thing filled with beautiful people and should be supported at any cost."
How much do we love THAT? Thank you, Eliot!
