5 for Fairness

if you want to catch a lot of rain, put out a lot of teacups...

We're starting something new here on 5 for Fairness. Every week, we are going to put out a call to action to our group. Yes, that means YOU!  We'll ask you do do one thing in the week that will move our mission forward.  And we are going to try our hardest to pick actions you can take in under (what else?) 5 minutes.

This week's challenge is for each of us to write a (hopefully 5 star rave!) review of 5 for Fairness on GuideStar/Great Nonprofits.  Why bother?

Two reasons:

1. GuideStar is running a contest this month. The nonprofit that brings in the most new reviews will win a $5000 grant which would mean we would have our next $5000 grant pronto!

2. If it were just about the contest, we wouldn't ask you to write a review. The chances of winning are always slim.  But it actually is important for us to have a positive presence on GuideStar. They maintain a database filled with information about nonprofits (including us) that people can use to evaluate whether or not they thing a nonprofit is worth supporting.  Positive reviews on GuideStar are likely to bring more people into our group.

So please, take 5 minutes, award us 5 stars and sing our praises right here.

And when you have written your review, please let us know here in the comments, or via the status bar on your page so we can sing YOUR praises!

Thanks, 5fers!

Thanks to Catherine, wrote in her review, "I was introduced to 5 For Fairness last year. I had just returned from doing human rights work in the The Congo and was trying to raise money for the amazing organization, Man Up-- a global youth initiative that helps discover solutions to stop violence against women and young girls. My freind Helen Bartlett told me about 5 For Fairness and introduced me to Anna McDonnell and her son Eliot. Eliot had submitted Man Up in the 5 For Fairness grant competition. Although MU came in second, awareness was raised not only regarding the Man Up campaign but about the horrific violence happening in the Congo."

With thanks not only for your review, Catherine, but for your tireless work on human rights in the Congo as well.

Done and dusted!

Hope I did it properly  -  it wouldn't post until I'd answered ALL of the questions

Thank you, Fi!  Done and dusted perfectly.

Many thanks to Mary, for writing:
"I've been a member of 5 for Fairness since summer, 2009 and have been so impressed by the way the foundation is set up, the way it has grown into an international community and how we members really do help make life better for girls, around the word. The internet has allowed us to be an interactive community, a philanthropic foundation with zero overhead whose members range in age from 15 to 85! Every member is able to nominate a non-proft program they admire, as long as it is dedicated to helping girls. Every member can get involved by inviting new members, raising money, and adding videos, informative links and inspiring personal stoires to our website. And every member has a say (a vote) in chosing our grantee, once we raise the $5,000.00 grant we give away. We set out to try and make the world a better place and we find that it is each of us who is changed by the experience."

Your last sentence is so completely true for me.

Thank you!

And Robin, bless her hear, wrote this:

"5 for Fairness (http://5forfairness.org/) tops my list of the many great non-profit organizations out there. Why? It's run by US, yes, the volunteers - under the wonderful guidance of Anna McDonnell, who started the whole thing and probably works the hardest! Several worthy organizations are brought forth by US, then voted for by US, the one receiving the most votes gets the grant. Then we start the grant cycle all over again. There is no doubt where my money and effort is going and who it's going to serve. Everything is transparent in 5 for Fairness. You can get as involved as you have time for. This is a great grass roots charitable organization and I'm so glad I found them!"

And we are glad you found us too, Robin!

We're not sure who "Fairness" is but we do love her review on GreatNonprofits!  Thank you, whoever you are!
