Thanks Melissa. Very interesting. Not sure I agree with Barcot though that l'affaire Mortenson has altered "the conversation in a way that is not helpful." He's just upset he is not raising as much money as he used to. I think people are asking him exactly the right questions - e.g is what you wrote true, how do you use the money, etc.
In the end though, I think there is a fundamental problem with the "charismatic do gooders" model we Americans seem so enamored of. I hope that here on 5 for Fairness that we can find some truly community-based organizations in distant lands to support rather than yet another American who thinks he or she has the key to "saving" the world.
