Claire this is fantastic! I was just wondering what the program would do with the $5000 grant exactly. Thanks! Eliot

Hi Eliot!

Great question! The $5000 grant will go towards our Leadership Institute, which recruits about 35 young women for a two-week intensive leadership course.

The Institute equips students with knowledge on issues such as women’s rights and reproductive health, leadership development, and conflict resolution skills through seminars, workshops and experiential learning. The students learn from and interact with Nepalese women leaders who are experts in their fields and combine theory and practice through discussions, simulations, political and service learning trips, and personal reflection.

In numbers, our 2011 Leadership Institute:

2 weeks

60 hours

16 speakers

30 participants

The Impact:

On the first and last days of our Leadership Institute, we asked the girls how powerful they were on a scale of 1-10. Watching the girls move from the 1-3 range to the 7-10 over the course of two weeks was a huge achievement. They had gained a deeper understanding of the challenges women face in Nepal; developed leadership and followership skills; wrote a resume for the first time; and now knew basic self-defense.

More importantly, they now identified as leaders and had first identified and then articulated their power.

Budget:

Costs include program costs (recruitment, logistics, up to a month before the program), staff costs (2 staff members) and materials.
