Final Friday Fairness of 2010: Women for Women International

When we watch the news at night, we see updates on the victims of the latest earthquake or tsunami, war or hurricane. But what happens to these people after these crises? What happens when the TV camera crews turn away and the celebrities return home? The "Women for Women International" organization is working to stabilize the life of war survivors, and turn the hardships in their lives into situations from which they…

Room to Read's Girls' Education Program

Room to Read's Girls' Education Program was based on one single idea: "When you educate a girl, you educate the next generation." Founded in 2000, this branch of Room to Read attempts to increase literacy and desire to learn through both tangible and intangible methods. This organization provides certain materials, such as school supplies, textbooks, and transportation, to girls who otherwise would not be able to afford or access these items. It also assists these students by implementing "a… Continue

Monday MOSTE Post

As I arrived at Anna's home last Sunday afternoon, I could feel it in the air. "It" was the ambiance of good cheer, good deeds, and great girls. I walked into the house and was immediately greeted with smiles and laughter coming from every side of the room.

The representatives from MOSTE, including President of the Board Alejandra Valenzuela, spoke passionately about the organization, and lovingly about their girls. They took the time to listen to the stories about how we…

Hi Juliet,

I’m the co-founder of Women LEAD, one of the teams competing for the grant this month. I’d love your support to empower more than 200 young women in Nepal to become leaders in their schools and communities! Your vote would help us build the capacity of future female leaders to tackle the root causes of poverty and discrimination. Our organization strongly believes that building young women's confidence and skills is key to empowerment. Please check out our page and website to see the work that we do and let us know if you have any questions. Thank you!

Hello Juliet! If you have a moment I was hoping you would come by and check out the team page for Orchid project. Orchid project's goal is to end the practice of female genital cutting. If you are inspired by what you see we welcome your support and would love it if you would become a member of our team!

Thanks!

India

P.S. Congratulations on graduating! that's so awesome!

Hey Juliet, thanks so much for writing the welcome comments! Can you do me a favor and change the language from "join" to "click the SUPPORT button in the upper right hand corner of the Team page"?  It's too confusing when people join 5 for Fairness and then join Teams so now they join 5 for Fairness, support Teams to help them get in voting round and vote for their favorite Team.  Better, right?  Anna

Hi,

My name is Payton M, I am a 5 For Fairness intern. I’m stopping by to let you know that now is the time to support your favorite team or teams to help them advance into the voting round. Seven teams are competing for five available spots in the voting round. The five teams that make it to the voting round will have a chance to win our $5000 grant, but only one team will win. The teams need your support now to make it into the voting round.  Here's how to support a Team:

First click on the Teams tab at the top of any page to see all of the teams. Click on any team that sounds interesting to you. If you like what you see and want to become a supporter, click the +Support (Team name) button in the upper right hand corner of the Team page. You can support as many Teams as you think deserve a spot in the Voting Round. Click here for more information on how to support a Team or, if you are ready to start, click here to see all the Teams.

Thanks for supporting 5 For Fairness,

Payton M.

Hi! I don't know if you have gotten a chance to read my post on 5 for Fairness about why I am so committed to Man Up and why I think it is such a fantastic place to send our grant in my Aunt Mima's name. If you haven't and have a minute it's right here:
http://5forfairness.org/group/manup/forum/topics/why-man-up-for-me.

I hope after reading this you feel inspired to go out and vote for our team ;-) if you do decide to vote Man Up, here's the place to do it:

Thanks so much!

Juliet, will you do a short blog about the MOSTE girls and what it was like for you to hear them talk and learn about the work MOSTE is doing? That would be so great to have up on the site! Thanks again for coming not once, but TWICE! xo

Thanks so much for coming yesterday, Juliet (how DID you look so awesome so quickly after your game?) and many apologies for the ginormous scheduling snafu. When the MOSTE contingent found out about it, they were absolutely devastated, so I am very glad we are going to re-boot the party at 4 today. Of course, would love it if you and your Mom and Paris could make it but TOTALLY understand if you cannot. No matter what, I'm thrilled to have you as our "founding" intern and look forward to a great year of doing more good work (and to you getting into a great college)! xo Anna
