This is what I want for Mothers Day

In Today's New Your Times Nicholas Kristof proposes a great new concept for celebrating this upcoming Holiday.  Calling it Mothers' Day to celebrate and help Moms worldwide who are struggling with issues of motherhood.  I have never liked Mother's day anyway - too fraught with often conflicting emotions, and although I'm always glad to honor my Mom, it seems a forced holiday to me. I sent this to my daughter this morning.  It seems to be very 5fer -ish!  so Happy Mothers' Day to all Mothers…See More

Hi Mary,

I’m the co-founder of Women LEAD, one of the teams competing for the grant this month. I’d love your support to empower more than 200 young women in Nepal to become leaders in their schools and communities! Your vote would help us build the capacity of future female leaders to tackle the root causes of poverty and discrimination. Our organization strongly believes that building young women's confidence and skills is key to empowerment. Please check out our page and website to see the work that we do and let us know if you have any questions. Thank you!

Because of your past support of The Global Fund For Women, which has not been active in this grant cycle, I am writing to ask if you would consider sharing your support with The Orchid Project.  The Orchid Projects sole aim is to end the practice of female genital cutting.

As a woman and a mother I feel compelled to do my part to end the human rights violation that three million girls suffer each year as their genitals are cut without permission or anastasia.

The Orchid Project works to end FGC by respectfully raising awareness of FCG, connecting individuals and local, national, and international organizations, and advocacy.

I know Orchid would be so grateful for your support and that this $5,000 would mean a lot to their work. Please consider supporting them to get through to the next round.

Have a wonderful day and thank you for your consideration,

Holly

Hi,

My name is Payton M, I am a 5 For Fairness intern. I’m stopping by to let you know that now is the time to support your favorite team or teams to help them advance into the voting round. Seven teams are competing for five available spots in the voting round. The five teams that make it to the voting round will have a chance to win our $5000 grant, but only one team will win. The teams need your support now to make it into the voting round.  Here's how to support a Team:

First click on the Teams tab at the top of any page to see all of the teams. Click on any team that sounds interesting to you. If you like what you see and want to become a supporter, click the +Support (Team name) button in the upper right hand corner of the Team page. You can support as many Teams as you think deserve a spot in the Voting Round. Click here for more information on how to support a Team or, if you are ready to start, click here to see all the Teams.

Thanks for supporting 5 For Fairness,

Payton M.

Glad you had an adventurous birthday!  So glad Clare is loving Porter's.  All is good here - though a tad hectic right now! - but it makes me so happy to see 5 for Fairness come alive and all the good work being done get some airtime.  Henry is living in NYC - sent me a picture of a green Empire State Building today.  We bought a tiny apartment in the West Village which I am trying to get to every two months.  So much fun. Quinn on Spring Break but with the crew team in Tennessee. Eliot in the middle of Junior year craziness. Doing crew. Leading the Man Up Team here.  Lots going on but great fun.  I can see that we'll want to do something new when the empty nest arrives. Think you were smart to make that big move before it happened! xoxo
