The Afghanistan Midwifery Project

When I travel, I always pick up the magazine Glamour to read. In the August issue of Glamour, I read an article entitled:"I Saved Her Life With My Two Hands". Intrigued, I flipped the page and began to read. It tells the story of a soldier named Michelle Johnson who was… Continue

The Akilah Institute

This is a really unique organization. It's the first two-year college for women in Rwanda and it just opened this year in February. Their first class has 50 students, many of whom had parents killed in the genocide of 1994. 1/3 of the students are the head of their households and "86% of them have held leadership positions". It was started by Elizabeth Davis and Dave Hughes and "is an initiative of Project Akilah, a U.S.-based tax-exempt nonprofit organization, and a registered international… Continue

Friday Fairness: The Coalition for Adolescent Girls:Ending Poverty with Girls

This organization sounds really cool. It was founded in 2005 by the United Nations Foundation and Nike Foundation. Their mission is to change impoverished communities by investing their energy in the welfare of girls. They believe that if young girls are educated and healthy, they can help end poverty since these now young women will have fewer children later in life and make better decisions. The Coalition for Adolescent Girls is focused on "collecting and distributing the facts that describe… Continue

I’d love your support to empower more than 200 young women in Nepal to become leaders in their schools and communities! Your vote would help us build the capacity of future female leaders to tackle the root causes of poverty and discrimination. Our organization strongly believes that building young women's confidence and skills is key to empowerment. Please check out our page and website to see the work that we do and let us know if you have any questions. Thank you!

Because of your past support of Women's Empowerment in Uganda, which has not been active in this grant cycle, I am writing to ask if you would consider sharing your support with The Orchid Project. The Orchid Projects sole aim is to end the practice of female genital cutting.

As a woman and a mother I feel compelled to do my part to end the human rights violation that three million girls suffer each year as their genitals are cut without permission or anesthesia.

The Orchid Project works to end FGC by respectfully raising awareness of FCG, connecting individuals and local, national, and international organizations, and advocacy.

I know Orchid would be so grateful for your support and that this $5,000 would mean a lot to their work. Please consider supporting them to get through to the next round.

Have a wonderful day and thank you for your consideration,

Holly

Hi,

My name is Payton M, I am a 5 For Fairness intern. I’m stopping by to let you know that now is the time to support your favorite team or teams to help them advance into the voting round. Seven teams are competing for five available spots in the voting round. The five teams that make it to the voting round will have a chance to win our $5000 grant, but only one team will win. The teams need your support now to make it into the voting round.  Here's how to support a Team:

First click on the Teams tab at the top of any page to see all of the teams. Click on any team that sounds interesting to you. If you like what you see and want to become a supporter, click the +Support (Team name) button in the upper right hand corner of the Team page. You can support as many Teams as you think deserve a spot in the Voting Round. Click here for more information on how to support a Team or, if you are ready to start, click here to see all the Teams.

Thanks for supporting 5 For Fairness,

Payton M.
