I watched all the videos and realized that until men--the sex with the bigger muscles--truly internalize that it is up to them to stop the violence, all the programs in the world designed to give women a greater voice will bear no fruit until the…

As she is fearful of harm coming to her immediate family should something about her appear on youtube and be seen in Afghanistan, she shies away from being filmed.  But thank you for your thoughtfullness and concern!  All the best--

Fatema's story is incredible and being only seventeen and having very few connections in the job market I feel almost helpless while reading this, but I will try and put the word out amongst the people I know. I don't have many skills at…

Afghan woman can't go home

Not to be too dramatic, I am writing about a matter of life and death.  Last summer we agreed to take in an Occidental College rising senior, a young woman from Afghanistan, who needed a place to stay for the summer.  Her name is Fatema.  She is so special, we have all but adopted her.  I certainly have a mother's concern for her.  Against all odds, Fatema just graduated from Occidental (she was one of 2 graduates who got a big hug from the President of the college during the ceremony), and…See More

Afghan Diary #1

As former lawyer, I tend to approach issues from an advocacy point of view. Even though, at the core of law school, is the training to argue both sides of an issue, I confess, it is sometimes hard for me to be objective. It took going to Kabul, Afghanistan, to realize that something I had long thought was a straight forward issue, keeping our troops here or getting them out, are two points of view with variations and permutations too numerous to distill into a “stay or leave choice”. Kabul’s… Continue

Hi Sara,

I’m the co-founder of Women LEAD, one of the teams competing for the grant this month. I’d love your support to empower more than 200 young women in Nepal to become leaders in their schools and communities! Your vote would help us build the capacity of future female leaders to tackle the root causes of poverty and discrimination. Our organization strongly believes that building young women's confidence and skills is key to empowerment. Please check out our page and website to see the work that we do and let us know if you have any questions. Thank you!

Hi,

My name is Payton M, I am a 5 For Fairness intern. I’m stopping by to let you know that now is the time to support your favorite team or teams to help them advance into the voting round. Seven teams are competing for five available spots in the voting round. The five teams that make it to the voting round will have a chance to win our $5000 grant, but only one team will win. The teams need your support now to make it into the voting round.  Here's how to support a Team:

First click on the Teams tab at the top of any page to see all of the teams. Click on any team that sounds interesting to you. If you like what you see and want to become a supporter, click the +Support (Team name) button in the upper right hand corner of the Team page. You can support as many Teams as you think deserve a spot in the Voting Round. Click here for more information on how to support a Team or, if you are ready to start, click here to see all the Teams.

Thanks for supporting 5 For Fairness,

Payton M.

So sorry it is frustrating for you to deal with the technology. It is actually quite simple to set up your browser to remember your email and password each time you come to the site so you don't have to. I'll have to come over and show you as a birthday present! You do know that this is the same platform for the Bioneers social network, right? You should be able to use the same email/password combo for that. Have you seen it? It's right here... Thanks so much for slogging your way through the technology, and for your contribution to our THIRD $5000 grant! xo
