Good for you, Anna, to have jumped on this and used it as a teachable moment. It's so disheartening that Mortenson's embellishments/inaccuracies/supersizing have seemed to discredit any good that he may have done. I can't help that…

Anna: I echo all the above. For me, given how busy I am, everything needs to be very simple: from the team presentations, to (and especially to) the voting. And it wasn't that it was hard, it's just that I wasn't sure if I had indeed…

"A Hero for Daisy" is a wonderful movie, Susie. Reminds me to try to remember who I loaned it to. Better yet, I'll get another copy and have a showing for our RowLA girls. Thanks for your support!

Please tell us how you heard about us...
from anna! who I met on a rowing weekend in VT this past summer.
What draws you to our cause?
I grew up at a time when girls/women were basically clueless about girl's & women's rights - not to mention human rights. Now, I am the mother of an adolescent girl who has the great privilege of seeing the world as a place of endless possibility. That is thrilling! It would be wonderful to help create opportunity for other girls and women who have not been as lucky as we are.

Hi Susie and thanks so much for your donation!  Your extra support makes it possible for people like Jodie to join and play a part in making the word fair for girls.  Here's what she wrote when she joined yesterday "I never thought I could make enough of a difference, in my giving, with the limited amount of money I have - so this cause affords me the opportunity to change someone's life even though I'm not a millionaire and only have a small amount of resources to work with.

I also love small movements that do big things. ; )"

You and all the other 5fers who keep donating are making our ongoing grants possible and I am so grateful...

Hope all is well on your home front.  Did I tell you Eliot is following Quinn to Dartmouth Crew? Unlike his brother, though, he'll be on the lightweight Team!

Hi Susan,

I’m the co-founder of Women LEAD, one of the teams competing for the grant this month. I’d love your support to empower more than 200 young women in Nepal to become leaders in their schools and communities! Your vote would help us build the capacity of future female leaders to tackle the root causes of poverty and discrimination. Our organization strongly believes that building young women's confidence and skills is key to empowerment. Please check out our page and website to see the work that we do and let us know if you have any questions. Thank you!

Because of your past support of The Global Fund For Women, which has not been active in this grant cycle, I am writing to ask if you would consider sharing your support with The Orchid Project.  The Orchid Projects sole aim is to end the practice of female genital cutting.

As a woman and a mother I feel compelled to do my part to end the human rights violation that three million girls suffer each year as their genitals are cut without permission or anastasia.

The Orchid Project works to end FGC by respectfully raising awareness of FCG, connecting individuals and local, national, and international organizations, and advocacy.

I know Orchid would be so grateful for your support and that this $5,000 would mean a lot to their work. Please consider supporting them to get through to the next round.

Have a wonderful day and thank you for your consideration,

Holly

Hi,

My name is Payton M, I am a 5 For Fairness intern. I’m stopping by to let you know that now is the time to support your favorite team or teams to help them advance into the voting round. Seven teams are competing for five available spots in the voting round. The five teams that make it to the voting round will have a chance to win our $5000 grant, but only one team will win. The teams need your support now to make it into the voting round.  Here's how to support a Team:

First click on the Teams tab at the top of any page to see all of the teams. Click on any team that sounds interesting to you. If you like what you see and want to become a supporter, click the +Support (Team name) button in the upper right hand corner of the Team page. You can support as many Teams as you think deserve a spot in the Voting Round. Click here for more information on how to support a Team or, if you are ready to start, click here to see all the Teams.

Thanks for supporting 5 For Fairness,

Payton M.

Thanks so much for answering our 5 questions for fairness, Susie!  Totally agree that navigating the website could be easier (will be introducing a new and hopefully much simpler design as soon as the Ning folks -they host the sitep- get the bugs out of their new design feature) and we will definitely have an easier and more streamlined voting system. I am really excited about that!  Thanks again for being patient and understanding with our growing pains.  We're inventing as we go - and don't really have any models to follow - so there we're bound to take some bad strokes!  On that note, am finally going to be getting on the water in our single this spring. Sooooo excited!
