Friday Fairness: Girls Inc. and Adventure Girls

Girls Inc., a nonprofit organization that strives to motivate girls to be "strong, smart, and bold", has numerous programs including science education, drug prevention, and teen health. This organization began during the Industrial Revolution to help women gain jobs in cities, and it has been aiding girls ever since.

Recently, Girls Inc. founded "Adventure Girls". This new program concentrates on young women ages twelve to fourteen and helps them to challenge themselves both intellectually and physically, as well as teaching other skills that pertain to all facets of their lives.

Adventure Girls provides physical obstacles for its participants in order to teach them about problem-solving for their daily lives. The girls make their way through rock climbing courses, mountain bike trails, and kayaking challenges that "will enable them to set their own personal goals and create their own definitions of success." This program stresses leadership and the importance of using what is learned through these physical exercises in order to assist them throughout their lives. Adventure Girls is sponsored by NFL charities, a foundation created to promote programs that stress both physical exercise and aiding the community.
