As I arrived at Anna's home last Sunday afternoon, I could feel it in the air. "It" was the ambiance of good cheer, good deeds, and great girls. I walked into the house and was immediately greeted with smiles and laughter coming from every side of the room.
The representatives from MOSTE, including President of the Board Alejandra Valenzuela, spoke passionately about the organization, and lovingly about their girls. They took the time to listen to the stories about how we all came to 5 for Fairness, and in turn raved about the site as well as community awareness in general. When the MOSTE girls spoke, I could see exactly why the representatives dedicate so much of their time to this organization.
Each MOSTE girl, starting with the middle schoolers, took turns talking about their experience with MOSTE. The younger girls' impromptu speeches were incredibly moving: they concentrated on how important it is to have someone that they could talk to and trust. A shoulder to lean on and and a person on whom they knew they could depend were vital and integral.
The MOSTE high schoolers, or "MOSTE Scholars" were also inspiring. They reminisced on their time with the organization, and the doors that it has opened. Because of MOSTE, all of these girls have been exposed to a world of opportunities, from attending high school to meeting with college counselors from all over the country, that otherwise they may never have experienced.
Through MOSTE, these girls' lives have been continually changed. By hearing the girls speak of their love for their mentors and the organization, those of us in attendance were lucky enough to be changed by these girls.
